1st International Workshop on Cyber Forensics and Threat Investigations Challenges in Emerging Infrastructures
In conjunction with the 18th International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC 2020) December 14-17 2020, Dubai, UAE
The increasing proliferation of global cyber-attacks at a frightening rate, has been facilitated by the connectivity growth using wired and wireless communication technologies between various heterogeneous systems. These attacks dangerously aim a broad array of computing systems varying from data centers and personal machines to mobile devices and industrial control systems. The deficiency of existing cyber-defenses and strategies may hinder the ability of security practitioners in applying suitable and timely reactions against these threats. Additionally, the inadequacies in existing digital investigation techniques and tools pose many challenges related to determining the identity of the threat actors, discovering the root vulnerability to impede any subsequent exploitation of a related event and identifying the threat actors’ motivations for the development of an efficient cybersecurity defense strategies.

Cyber forensics and threat investigations has rapidly emerged as a new field to provide the key elements for maintaining the next generation of emerging infrastructures such as service-oriented architecture and cloud environments, secure, reliable, and trustworthy, where all future internet services and applications will be hosted and running. In this regard, a rethinking in the current digital investigations’ practices, methods, and tools are required in order to adapt to this new context. The usage of traditional methods may lead to the loss of valuable data hosted on various types of remote or uncommon cyber-infrastructures and causes a struggle to find relevant evidential data, this impact will continue to expand in the forthcoming years.

The main aim of this workshop is to bring researchers and practitioners together as a multi-disciplinary discussion forum to disseminate current research issues and advances and to provide insight for the discussion of the major research challenges and achievements on various topics of interest.

Topics of interest comprise, but are not limited to:

  • Digital evidence search and seizure in emerging infrastructures
  • Forensics soundness in emerging infrastructures
  • Cybercrime investigation in emerging infrastructures
  • Incident handling in emerging infrastructures
  • eDiscovery in emerging infrastructures
  • Forensics readiness in emerging infrastructures
  • Challenges for digital investigations in emerging infrastructures
  • Legal aspect of digital investigations in emerging infrastructures
  • Tools and practices for digital investigations in emerging infrastructures
  • Case studies related to digital investigations in emerging infrastructures
  • digital investigations -as-a-Service
